Type Locality and Naming

The type section lies around Wanghu Village, Shuidong Town, Xuancheng City, Anhui. It was named by the Department of Geology, Nanjing University and the Institute of Geology, Anhui Bureau of Geology in 1961, and formally cited by Jin Yugan in 1961.


Lithology and Thickness

Littoral-neritic clastic rocks. Lower part consists of gray-white and gray siltstone and fine-grained sandstone and brown-yellow thick-bedded sandstone, intercalated with light-gray shale, rich in brachiopods; Upper part is of yellow-green, light-gray and gray-black thin-bedded quartz sandstone and gray-black shale intercalated with fine-grained sandstone, yielding brachiopods. 5−20 m thick.

Regional extent

distributed in the areas such as Liyang and Yixing of southern Jiangsu, Changxing of northern Zhejiang and Xuancheng of southern Anhui

Fossils

In the Xuancheng, Ningguo and Jingxian areas of southern Anhui there are the Brachiopod Eochoristites neipentaiensis-Ptychomaletoechia kinglingensis assemblage zone, Corals Pseudouralinia sp., Syringopora sp., etc.
